comedian and character actor, Mr. Bhalla was best known for his performances in
Punjabi blockbusters like Carry
on Jatta, Mahaul
Theek Hai, Jatt
Airways, and Jatt
& Juliet 2.
Leaders from
across political parties expressed their grief over his demise and remembered
his contribution to public life.
Punjab Chief
Minister Bhagwant Mann, while mourning on X, said Jaswinder Bhalla ji’s sudden
demise has left behind a deep void. He mentioned that the stillness left behind
by Chanakya’s once joyful laughter deeply saddens him. May Waheguru bless his
soul. ‘Chacha Chatar’ will always live in our hearts.”
Expressing
grief, Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that the sudden
demise of Jaswinder Bhalla ji is an immense loss. He highlighted Bhalla’s
unique voice, his service to Punjabi culture, and his bond with the community,
offering heartfelt sympathies to his near ones and fans. The Punjabi film
fraternity and their co-artists are deeply grieved by the loss. Everyone was shocked by the news of his passing.
Apart from
acting, Mr. Bhalla had a strong academic background. He earned a Master’s
degree in Science from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he also
served as a faculty member. He retired in 2020 as Professor and Head of the
Department of Extension Education.
In Punjabi
cinema, he earned a special place in people’s hearts with his clever satire and
brilliant sense of humor. His role as lawyer Dhillon in the 2012 hit Carry On Jatta,
alongside Gippy Grewal and Mahie Gill, is still fondly remembered. His
unmatched comic timing and unique catchphrases made him a favorite among
audiences.
Mr. Bhalla’s
son, Pukhraj Bhalla, has followed in his footsteps and is also an actor in
Punjabi films.
